
Hal Deatherage,
Ph. D., P.E. Civil Engineering
Hal Deatherage is a
native of Knoxville, TN. He attained his BS degree from the
University of Missouri at Rolla in 1965 in Geophysics (Rock
Mechanics). A year later he attained his MS degree in Structural
Engineering. He received his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering in 1987. For
the next 20 years Dr. Deatherage was responsible for the
Construction Program in the Department of Civil and Environmental
Engineering at The University of Tennessee. In addition to his
teaching, Dr. Deatherage was an Associate Director in the
Transportation Research Center and an Associate Director for the
Construction Industry Research and Policy Center.
Dr Deatherage has been a Licensed Professional Engineer since 1973.
He was the Principal in a Consulting Firm specializing in
engineering and architectural services. He was President and Chief
Operating Officer of a regional construction firm specializing in
design-build services. He currently is a Professor Emeritus in Civil
Engineering and Partner in Construction Engineering Consultants.
Over the last 20 years he has testified more than 300 times in
litigation issues involving design, safety, construction
productivity, construction claims, forensic failure analysis,
erosion and sediment control issues, maintenance, construction
quality, and other structural and civil engineering issues. CEC’s
client base includes several ENR Top 400 Construction firms.
Additionally our litigation clients are national. We have provided
litigation support in Michigan, Iowa, Pennsylvania, West Virginia,
Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina,
Florida and Tennessee. Dr. Deatherage’s areas of expertise as an
